This is what the Symmetry startup screen looks like. It contains some basic information, some of the most frequently used menu items, plus a direct link to the starting page of this manual. Let’s have a look at the details:
In the top left corner, you can find the version of Symmetry that you are actually running. Very often, that will be the most recently released version when you purchase your software license.
Basically, we advise you not to update or install any new versions as long as you do not encounter any specific problems or issues. “If it works, don’t fix it.”
However, when you report any specific software issue to your tech support, it is crucial to know the version number you are running. There is a chance that others have encountered the same issue. Very often, tech support will be asking you to specify the software version you were running when you encountered the issue you are reporting, and will require you to update the software if necessary.
Right behind the version number, you will find the software’s registration status. Once the software has been registered, the words “Not registered” in the above screenshot will be modified into “Registered”.
In the middle of your screen, there are four shortcut buttons: “New Job”, “Open Existing”, “Tutorial Library”, and “Preferences”.
“New Job“ will have Symmetry turn to the main screen, opening a new blank job and the F5 Autoplate window. (If you are not familiar with some of these terms, don’t worry; we will explain them later.
”Open Existing“ will open the dialog box in Symmetry, where you can browse through your folders and select any previously saved job on your computer.
Tutorial Library. The idea is to create a library of tutorial videos in a later stage, which you will be able to access through this button.
Preferences. This will give you access to a series of standard settings in Symmetry. For example, the plate size when starting a new job, or the fonts that are listed standard. When you are familiar with the program and your machine, you might want to modify these according to your own preferences.
In the lower right corner, there is a shortcut to the starting page of this user manual.
